Formulation Overview
SilkTears™ is an over-the-counter lubricating eye drop that meets FDA OTC monograph requirements for ocular lubricants and is intended for the temporary relief of dryness and irritation.
Its preservative-free formulation uses a silk-derived protein (Amlisimod) as an inactive wetting agent excipient and includes only permitted ingredients under the FDA’s OTC Monograph M018.

Active Ingredient
Glycerin (0.2%) – A well-established ophthalmic lubricant derived from vegetable and fruit oils. Used to temporarily relieve dryness and irritation by protecting and moisturizing the ocular surface.
Inactive Ingredients
Purified Water – Acts as the base for the formulation — clean, sterile, and essential for isotonic balance.
Amlisimod (silk-derived protein) – A highly water-soluble protein hydrolysate produced from the natural silk cocoon. Included as an inactive wetting agent to support comfortable application. No therapeutic claims are made.
Dextrose – Helps maintain osmolality to support ocular comfort and formulation stability.
Magnesium Chloride – A mineral salt that helps balance pH and enhance formulation stability.
Sodium Acetate – A buffering agent that assists in maintaining a comfortable pH and stabilizes the formulation.
May also contain trace amounts of hydrochloric acid and/or sodium hydroxide to adjust pH during manufacturing.
